Zwischen Feigen & Hagebutten

ZWISCHEN FEIGEN & HAGEBUTTEN, GEFÄNGNIS & GEWÄCHSHAUS
Situated in the south-eastern corner of Vienna near the border to Lower Austria, Kaiserebersdorf offers a broad variety of atmospherical phenomenons that allow for an interesting examination of the circumstances that define an area not yet reached by the extension of urban qualities. Single-family homes and social housing, backyards and agricultural land, a prison in a former royal reisdence and self-management of refugees in former barracks roughly mark the scale of dissonances in the ambiance. For an understanding of the local constellations some characteristic spatial qualities were picked out and analysed graphically.
The following project embraces the aesthetic of the surroundings, using the existing resources, tools, and possibilities to establish interventions that connect to the local conditions. Those interventions include a larger sidewalk near a park, a night shelter, a community space, cheap minimal housing, a break room for walkers and runners, a Basketball court, and a metalworking shop for prisoners to learn a trade.
